About the Project

Hotel Norge in Bergen; a new home for travellers with a curious mind. Hotel Norge embraces Bergen’s history and combines it with an international and contemporary lifestyle. Giving back the most iconic space of Bergen to the public, by restoring the former ballroom into the lobby. Concrete introduced escalators to seduce people from the ground floor Café Norge up to the second floor Lobby, where the design is highlighted by the eternal sunshine of the giant sun, a surprising feature hidden in the heart of the building.

The hotel is a destination in itself, offering an escape from the daily grind for business and leisure travellers alike, without even having to step outside. Staying at Hotel Norge means meeting like-minded people at the café and forgetting time because you’re having fun. Discover nature’s richest and purest Nordic flavours in restaurant NOVA, explore new urban scenes with the lifestyle concierge, and experience the greatest freedom of the outdoors, away of the hustle and bustle, in the ‘hytte’ inspired guest rooms at the end of the day. The hotel allows both locals and travellers to eat, work, drink and sleep in the heart of the city, situated between the mountains and the vast blue sea. Surround yourself with city life, break free into nature when you need it, and stay to escape.

What’s unique about it

Concrete created the perfect guest experience for locals and travellers alike, by creating the lobby in the former ballroom on the second floor, and transforming the former lobby on ground floor to a vibrant brasserie like cafe. A set of escalators were introduced to connect the two. The hotel is a collection of unique curated spaces, with a different array of ambiances that capture Bergen. Cafe Norge is casual, young and fresh ; that’s reflected in the light materials, colourscheme, and program (bar and amfi staircase). The Lobby is a more sophisticated, ambient, saturated, soft, grown up space, topped off with a giant sun that changes colour and mood depending on the season. The restaurant, a sequence of rooms with tranquil landscapes in 5 colour schemes, is smartly dividable by sliding doors to create intimacy when transforming from breakfast area to fine dining restaurant. The guest rooms, inspired by the Norwegian Hytte, are designed as the perfect getaway. Kick off your shoes in the mudroom, close the doors and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city. Materials, colours and textures inspired by nature, create a cosy atmosphere. Eat, work, relax, daydream and sleep in your bed, which forms the heart of the room.
